Chapter 11 - The Inheritance Clause

The global expansion gala was a resounding triumph. Flanked by international investors and my new strategic partner, Marcus Vance, I delivered a keynote speech that sent Vance Global’s stock surging another 8% by morning market open. But celebration in the corporate stratosphere is always brief. The morning after the gala, a certified envelope arrived marked Personal and Confidential, bearing the wax seal of Vance Family Senior Counsel.

Inside was a document I had never seen before: an addendum to old man Arthur Vance’s original will, dated twenty years prior.

According to the clause, if a sitting CEO of Vance Global was found guilty of moral turpitude, corporate embezzlement, or gross marital betrayal resulting in corporate restructuring, the primary voting shares didn't just transfer to the trust—they triggered an absolute forfeiture of any remaining family bloodline claims, locking Julian out permanently while granting me 100% unilateral veto power over the entire Vance family estate.

Even better, it included the deed to the original Vance family ancestral estate—a sprawling, historic seaside manor in coastal Maine that Julian had always claimed was exclusively his birthright.

I smiled, sliding the document back into its folio. Julian hadn't just lost his company; he had been legally erased from the family legacy entirely.
