Chapter 6 - The UltimatumBy the end of the week, Julian was completely cornered. Stripped of his CEO title, his corporate housing, his luxury cars, and his offshore safety net—courtesy of Chloe's desperate betrayal—he was reduced to living out of a mid-tier extended-stay hotel near the airport.

My phone rang late at night. I picked it up, expecting it to be my lead attorney. Instead, it was Julian’s trembling, broken voice.

"Elena... please. Just... let me talk to you. Name your terms. Anything. Just don't let them send me to prison."

"Meet me at the old dock warehouse by the harbor," I said coldly. "Midnight. Come alone."

Before he could stammer a reply, I hung up.

When my chauffeured car pulled up to the abandoned, fog-shrouded harbor warehouse, Julian was already standing there shivering in the chilly midnight air. He looked pathetic. The designer suit was rumpled, his hair was unwashed, and the arrogant glint in his eyes was replaced by the hollow, frantic stare of a trapped animal.

He practically threw himself toward my car window as I rolled it down an inch. "Elena! Thank God. Look, I’m sorry. I was a monster. I was arrogant, blind, stupid—"

"Save it, Julian," I said, opening the door and stepping out into the damp air. Two private security guards stood a few yards back, ensuring he kept his distance. "You didn't call me out here for an apology. You called because you have nowhere else to go."

Julian dropped to his knees on the wet concrete, a desperate move meant to extract pity. "Take everything! Take the house, the cars, the bank accounts! Just sign the affidavit dropping the federal fraud charges against me. Please! I’ll leave the country. You’ll never have to see my face again."

I looked down at the man who had spent years making me feel invisible, small, and worthless. The power dynamic had completely inverted.

"Drop the charges?" I asked quietly, tilting my head. "Julian, you spent years trying to break my spirit, laughing behind my back with your mistress, and plotting to throw me out onto the street with nothing. You thought you were the master architect of your own destiny."

I pulled a single document from my folder and dropped it onto the wet concrete right in front of his hands.

"Sign this," I said.

Julian scrambled forward, picking up the paper with trembling fingers. By the dim light of the harbor lamps, his eyes scanned the text, and his breath hitched violently.

"This... this is a total confession of corporate embezzlement, fraudulent asset diversion, and moral turpitude," he whispered, horror dawning on his face. "And... and a voluntary surrender of your maiden name... and total forfeiture of any future claims to Vance Global stock."

"Sign it, and I won't personally push the federal judge for the maximum twenty-year sentence," I said flatly. "Refuse, and I’ll make sure you spend the next two decades sharing a cell with people who don't like white-collar criminals very much."

Julian stared at the paper, tears of humiliation mixing with rain on his cheeks. With a shaking, broken hand, he picked up a pen and scrawled his signature across the bottom line.
