Chapter 7 - The Phoenix RisesTwo months later, the corporate world looked entirely different.

The front page of The Wall Street Journal featured a massive, flattering portrait of me—not as a socialite accessory, not as a dutiful CEO's wife, but as the sole, undisputed chairwoman and majority owner of Vance Global. The headline read: The Quiet Force: How Elena Vance Reclaimed an Empire.

I sat behind the massive mahogany desk in the executive office—the real executive office, high above the glittering city skyline. The room had been completely redecorated: the cold, aggressive minimalist black furniture Julian favored had been replaced with warm walnut, elegant artwork, and vibrant green plants that breathed life into the space.

My phone chimed. It was an automated alert from the federal penitentiary system. Julian Vance’s trial had concluded; thanks to his signed confession and the watertight evidence my legal team provided, he had been sentenced to eight years in federal prison with no parole for the first four. Chloe had received five.

There was no sympathy in my chest, only a profound, liberating sense of peace.

The door to my office opened softly, and my new chief legal counsel stepped in, carrying a fresh stack of acquisition briefs. "Elena, the board is waiting in conference room B for the international expansion vote. Are you ready?"

I stood up, adjusting the cuffs of my sharp, tailored ivory blazer, catching my reflection in the floor-to-ceiling glass window. I looked strong, radiant, and completely untouchable.

"Let's go," I said, a confident smile touching my lips. "Let's show them how business is really done."
