Chapter 8 - The New Empire

Three months later, the front page of the Chicago Tribune featured a headline that sent shockwaves through the city's financial elite: ELIAS VOSS ANNOUNCES SURPRISE ENGAGEMENT AND RESTRUCTURING OF VOSS EMPIRE.
Inside the gleaming penthouse suite of the newly remodeled Pearl Room, the afternoon sunlight poured through towering glass windows overlooking a bustling downtown Chicago.
Zaria stood by the window wearing a stunning emerald silk dress, watching the traffic flow far below. The constant, crushing terror of rent checks, empty bank accounts, and missing formula was a distant memory. But more than the wealth and the security, it was the peace of mind that mattered most.
The heavy mahogany office door clicked open, and heavy footsteps crossed the hardwood floor.
Strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, and a familiar chin rested gently on her shoulder.
"You're staring off into space again," Elias murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her temple.
Zaria smiled, leaning back against his chest as she felt the solid, steady heartbeat beneath his shirt. "I was just thinking about the first day I walked into your office. If someone had told me then that I’d be standing here now, living in this penthouse with you and Theo, I would have told them they were completely insane."
Elias chuckled softly, sliding his arms tighter around her. "Life is unpredictable, Zaria. The best investments always are."

From the adjoining nursery suite, a joyful baby laugh echoed down the hallway as little Theo, now walking with wobbly, determined steps, chased after a shiny gold fountain pen rolling across the floor.
Elias looked toward the sound, a genuine, warm smile breaking across his face—a smile that no one outside this room would ever see, reserved solely for the two people who had finally taught the coldest man in Chicago how to love.
