CHAPTER 6 — The Waitress Who Remembered Everything

Morning arrived.

The attack had ended.

Half the mansion lay in ruins.

Police sealed off the property.

News helicopters circled overhead, reporting an explosion at the Carson estate without mentioning organized crime.

Jack stood silently among the broken stone columns.

Everything had changed.

His enemies weren't fighting for power anymore.

They were hunting history itself.

Marcus approached Evelyn carrying a small locked wooden box recovered from Detective Pierce's old evidence locker.

"We found this hidden beneath your childhood home."

Evelyn stared.

"I've never seen it."

Marcus handed her an old brass key found inside.

The moment her fingers touched it...

A forgotten memory flashed through her mind.

She was five years old.

Her father had knelt beside her before leaving for work.

He had smiled gently.

"If anyone ever asks..."

"Tell them the birds sleep under the lighthouse."

She had laughed.

Thinking it was only a game.

Now...

She whispered those exact words aloud.

Marcus froze.

Jack slowly looked toward him.

"What does it mean?"

Marcus turned pale.

"The lighthouse..."

"There was never a lighthouse."

He unfolded an old city map.

Then smiled in disbelief.

"The city's first police station was nicknamed 'The Lighthouse.'"

Detective Pierce had hidden the Black Ledger beneath the abandoned station decades ago.

Evelyn had unknowingly carried the final clue her entire life.

Jack looked at her with amazement.

"You were never just a waitress."

"You've been the key from the very beginning."

Before anyone could move...

A sniper's bullet shattered the remaining window.

Glass exploded across the room.

Daniel collapsed.

Blood spread across his chest.

With his final breath, he grabbed Jack's sleeve.

"They know..."

"...where you're going."

Outside...

More than sixty black SUVs surrounded the destroyed estate.

At their center stood a woman dressed entirely in white.

Elegant.

Calm.

Smiling.

She removed her sunglasses.

Jack's face lost all color.

Evelyn whispered,

"Who is she?"

Jack answered with barely audible words.

"My mother."

Marcus stared in disbelief.

"But..."

"She died twenty-two years ago."

Jack never looked away from the woman outside.

"No..."

May you like

"She disappeared."

"And she just came back to finish what she started."
