CHAPTER 6 The Security Cameras Revealed the Impossible... There Had Never Been Anyone Behind the Door
Emergency power returned with a violent surge.
The lights flickered back to life.
Every guard spun around with weapons raised.
Henry stumbled forward, breathing heavily.
The hand on his shoulder was gone.
There was no one behind him.
Only an empty hallway.
The mysterious figure had vanished.
The shattered service door stood wide open.
Beyond it stretched nothing but darkness.
One guard counted the staff.
"Everyone answer!"
One by one, frightened voices echoed through the corridor.
"I'm here."
"Over here!"
"I'm okay."

Silence.
"Where's Carter?"
The youngest security officer was missing.
His flashlight lay on the floor, still switched on.
Its beam pointed toward the abandoned corridor.
A trail of fresh footprints disappeared into the darkness.
Henry frowned.
"They're too clean."
"What?"
"Those prints..."
"They're barefoot."
The veterinarian knelt beside them.
His face drained of color.
"They're not going in."
"They're coming out."
No one wanted to hear those words.
Security finally restored the surveillance system.
A technician rushed into the hallway carrying a tablet.
"You need to see this."
He replayed the footage from just moments earlier.
Everyone crowded around.
The video showed Henry standing in front of the broken door.
The guards.
The veterinarian.
The maintenance worker.
Max inside his enclosure.
Everything looked normal.
Then Henry pointed at the screen.
"There!"
"The keeper!"
The technician paused the recording.
There was nothing there.
"No..."
Henry insisted.
"Play it again."
They watched the footage a second time.
Then a third.
The result never changed.
The cameras showed Henry speaking to empty air.
The guards aiming their weapons at nothing.
The maintenance worker screaming at an invisible presence.
The mysterious keeper...
...did not exist on any camera.
The hallway fell deathly quiet.
One guard whispered,
"So... we all imagined it?"
Before anyone could answer, Max suddenly began pounding the glass—not toward the broken door this time, but toward the surveillance monitor itself.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
Henry looked back at the paused footage.
At first, he saw nothing unusual.
Then he leaned closer.
Far in the reflection of the monitor...
Behind everyone standing in the hallway...
A tall shadow was visible.
It wasn't in the room.
It wasn't on the floor.
It appeared only in the reflection.
And while every person in the hallway was facing the screen...
The shadow was facing them.
Then, before anyone could react, words slowly appeared across the frozen monitor as if written by an invisible finger.
"HE REMEMBERED ME."
The screen instantly went black.
