Chapter 12 - THE SWISS DEBTInside the reserve’s central assembly room, the atmosphere was suffocating. Elena, Clara, and several community leaders sat around a large wooden table, while Maria—who had remained Alexander's chief logistical advisor—ran complex financial diagnostics on her laptop.

"She’s telling the truth," Maria said, tapping her screen. "Arthur Morgan set up an offshore shell entity in Zurich in 1986 called Helvetia Bio-Assets. The loan agreement was backed by a bearer bond system that bypassed federal disclosure laws."
"How much is the debt?" Clara asked, holding young Lily close to her side.
"It’s not expressed in currency," Alexander said, standing by the window as rain began to lash against the glass. "It’s expressed in human blood. My father traded the biological security of this neighborhood for early capital to build his empire."
Julian sat in the corner, staring at his trembling hands. "The containment seals Victoria mentioned... they aren't just concrete vaults. Father built a secondary pressure-release system under the old riverbed. If the pressure isn't equalized, the entire district will collapse into a sinkhole of toxic sludge."
"Can we engineer a chemical neutralizer?" Tommy asked, looking around the room at the adults. "We built the filtration systems for the garden. Can't we build bigger ones?"
Alexander knelt beside Tommy, touching the boy's shoulder. "The volume of toxic waste down there is millions of gallons, Tommy. Standard filtration would clog in minutes."
Maria’s phone chimed with an encrypted alert. She looked down, her eyes widening. "Alexander... Victoria Vance didn't just file for title confiscation. Her firm just bought out thirty percent of the municipal bond debt for the city's main water treatment facility."
"She’s forcing a corner," Alexander realized, his eyes narrowing with dangerous intensity. "She doesn't just want the land. She wants to create a water crisis in the city so she can sell the synthetic antibody cure at whatever price she demands."
"Then we fight her in court," Elena declared, slamming her palm on the table. "We won before!"
"In court, she wins by stalling," Alexander said. "We have seventy-two hours before the subterranean vault breaches. We can't fight this with lawyers."
He turned to Julian. "Where are the original engineering schematics for the secondary pressure vault?"
Julian looked up, terror flickering in his eyes. "Father destroyed them."
"He didn't destroy them," Julian said slowly, correcting himself. "He hid them in the one place he knew no federal investigator would ever look."

"Where?" Alexander asked.
Julian looked directly into his brother's eyes. "Inside his personal mausoleum at the private Morgan estate in Zurich."
