Chapter 19 - THE SHADOWS RISEForty-Eight Hours Later.

The rain had finally cleared over Metropolis, leaving behind a crisp, brilliant autumn afternoon. The city water authority had officially lifted all boil-water advisories, confirming that the municipal supply was completely clean and uncontaminated.
At Vance & Sterling’s headquarters downtown, federal agents cleared out boxes of classified files under the glaring lights of news cameras. Victoria Vance was led out in handcuffs, charged with domestic terrorism, corporate extortion, and environmental devastation.
In the Shadows, hundreds of community residents gathered in the central park.
The toxic fissure near the monument had been completely sealed with reinforced concrete and capped with three feet of clean, rich topsoil provided by local agricultural cooperatives.
Alexander stood near the park entrance, his arm in a sling from the shoulder strain he had suffered holding the valve. Beside him stood Julian, Maria, Elena, and Clara.
Tommy walked up to Alexander, holding a bright yellow sunflower that had just bloomed near the central fountain.
"You kept your promise, Mr. Morgan," Tommy said, offering the flower.
Alexander took the sunflower, a gentle smile touching his face. "We kept it together, Tommy."
A large black city shuttle pulled up to the curb, and the Mayor of Metropolis stepped out, accompanied by several members of the City Council. The Mayor walked up to the small gathering, holding a rolled parchment scroll tied with a blue ribbon.
"Mr. Morgan," the Mayor spoke, his voice amplified by the news microphones surrounding the park. "In recognition of your heroic actions in protecting this city’s water supply, and in light of the full restoration of this neighborhood, the City Council has officially voted to rename this entire district."
The Mayor unrolled the parchment.
"From this day forward, this fifty-acre reserve and the surrounding community shall no longer be known as the Shadows. It is officially designated as The Morgan Botanical Sanctuary and Free Health District."
The crowd erupted into cheers and applause. Children ran through the grass, throwing flower petals into the air, while news helicopters circled overhead, broadcasting the celebration to millions of viewers across the nation.

Julian leaned on his walking stick, watching the crowd with a quiet, profound smile. "Father would have hated this," he whispered to Alexander. "A Morgan name attached to something free."
"Father was looking at the world through a window," Alexander replied, watching Tommy play with his sister Lily near the fountain. "He never learned how to plant anything."
