Chapter 3 - The Bloodline SecretRachel's words hung in the sterile air like a poison cloud. Arthur’s eyes locked onto his sister with lethal focus.

"What are you talking about, Rachel?" Arthur growled, his voice dropping an octave. "I was there. I pulled Marcus out of the burning Humvee."
"You were concussed, blind, and dying of third-degree burns, Arthur!" Rachel whispered sharply. "You only saw what they wanted you to see. Marcus discovered a multi-million-dollar illegal arms operation operating directly out of his battalion base. The men who orchestrated it weren't foreign enemies—they were high-ranking military officials right here in Nebraska. And Marcus left behind the encryption key that proves it all."
My pulse raced. "What does that have to do with a premature baby in an incubator?"
"The encryption key isn't a flash drive or a document," Rachel said, looking down at the sleeping infant in Arthur's arms. "Marcus was an expert in bio-data encryption. Before he deployed, he had the digital key encoded into a unique, synthetic DNA strand embedded in a painless medical micro-marker under his newborn daughter's skin. Clara isn't just a child. She is a walking vault containing evidence that could bring down powerful generals, politicians, and corporate defense contractors."
I stared at Clara in horror. A innocent, tiny two-pound baby was carrying a target on her back simply by existing.
"That's why Maya was targeted," Arthur realized, his face turning pale under his burn scars. "She didn't relapse. They forcibly drugged her to make her look incompetent, then stole Clara the moment she was born!"
"Exactly," Rachel said, her voice finally dropping its cold professional mask, revealing terrifying fear. "And the men who want that micro-marker aren't coming with court orders. They've already bribed hospital security. The entire St. Jude Medical Center is compromised."
Right on cue, the lights inside the NICU flickered violently once, twice, and then plunged into total darkness.

The emergency generators kicked in with a heavy thud, flooding the room with a eerie red backup light. Instantly, the main power grid shut down, locking the electronic security doors from the outside.
Through the heavy reinforced glass window of the NICU, three figures dressed in dark tactical gear silently stepped out of the hallway shadows, raising silenced pistols toward the glass.
