Chapter 4 - The Public Execution

Two weeks later, I walked back into St. Jude Memorial Hospital.

I wasn't wearing scrubs. I was wearing a tailored, midnight-black Armani pantsuit that screamed authority, towering heels that clicked sharply against the polished marble floor, and dark sunglasses to hide the lingering shadows under my eyes. My baby boy, Leo, was safely at home with a private 24/7 neonatal nurse and round-the-clock security.

Today was the emergency medical board hearing.

As I pushed open the heavy oak doors of the executive amphitheater, all heads turned. Seated at the defendant's table was Bradley. He looked ten years older. His hair was uncombed, his skin grey, and his eyes bloodshot. Behind him sat Hannah, weeping softly into a crumpled tissue, completely ignored by everyone in the room.

"Dr. Allison Palmer," the Chief of the Medical Board, a stern elderly cardiologist named Dr. Henderson, said, his voice echoing in the cavernous room. "You were summoned as the primary victim and chief witness in the disciplinary review of Dr. Bradley Jenkins."

Bradley sprang to his feet, his face twisting into a mask of frantic desperation.

"Allison! Thank God!" Bradley cried, rushing toward me with his arms outstretched, trying to put on his best grieving-husband routine. "I know you're angry, I know trauma has clouded your judgment, but we can fix this! We're a family! You can't let them destroy everything we built!"

I didn't flinch. I didn't step back.

I simply raised my right hand and slapped him across the face with a force that echoed off the mahogany walls.

The room went dead silent.

Bradley staggered back, clutching his cheek, staring at me in utter disbelief. "Allison... you... you hit me?"

"That," I said, my voice cutting through the silence like a scalpel, "is for our son, who bears permanent nerve damage in his right shoulder because of your arrogant ego. The next part is for me."

I turned to the board, unbuttoning my blazer, and dropped a thick, leather-bound portfolio onto Dr. Henderson’s desk.

"Members of the board," I began, my voice steady, cold, and absolute. "For the past three years, Dr. Bradley Jenkins has not only abused his medical license to endanger patients, but he has systematically embezzled departmental research funds to finance his mistress, Hannah Vance, and maintain a luxury apartment across town."

Bradley’s face drained of every drop of blood. He dropped back into his chair like a puppet with its strings cut. "Lies... that's all lies..."

"Is it?" I stepped forward, clicking a remote in my hand.

The massive projector screen behind the board lit up. It didn't show medical charts. It showed high-resolution bank statements, hotel receipts booked under fake names, and text messages between Bradley and Hannah mocking my professional competence, plotting how to ease me out of my Chief of ER position so Hannah could take my place.

And then, the crown jewel: audio recordings from the delivery room intercom system that had accidentally been left running.

“Hold her still... If anything happens, I'll take responsibility.”

Bradley’s voice boomed through the speakers, dripping with sociopathic indifference as I screamed in agony.
