Chapter 6 - The Takeover

Three months later, the ink on the divorce decree was finally dry.
It was a bloodbath, legally speaking. I stripped Bradley of his home, his savings, his luxury sports car, his retirement funds, and every single cent of liquid assets he possessed. He was left living in a cheap, roach-infested motel room across town, working night shifts at a 24-hour car wash just to pay off his massive legal fees.
Hannah had taken a plea deal, trading testimony against Bradley's hidden offshore accounts for a reduced sentence of two years probation and a permanent ban from healthcare. She was working the cash register at a fast-food joint on the highway, her medical dreams dead and buried.
And me?
I sat behind the massive mahogany desk in the Chief of Medicine’s office—not just the ER anymore, but the entire hospital administration wing. Dr. Henderson had retired, and the board had unanimously voted me in as the youngest Chief Medical Officer in St. Jude’s history.
My office door opened softly, and Victoria stepped in, holding two crystal glasses and a bottle of expensive champagne.
"To total, absolute, unadulterated annihilation," Victoria toasted, clinking her glass against mine with a wicked grin.
"To justice," I corrected, taking a sip of the crisp, cold bubbly.
At that moment, the door pushed open wider. My private night nurse walked in, carrying a giggling, bright-eyed baby boy dressed in a tiny blue tuxedo onesie.

"Say hi to your mommy, Leo," the nurse smiled, handing him over to me.
I scooped my son into my arms, pressing my face against his soft hair. He was thriving. His physical therapy for his shoulder was working miracles, and his bright, curious eyes looked up at me with absolute, unconditional love. He didn't know the nightmare we had survived. He only knew warmth, safety, and a mother who would burn the entire world to ash before letting anyone hurt him again.
