CHAPTER 7 – THE LITTLE GIRL WHO KNEW EVERYTHING

Darkness swallowed the mansion.
Only the sound of footsteps echoed through the halls.
Ethan pulled his father into a hidden study while Clara locked the heavy oak door behind them.
Then the whisper came again.
"Grandpa..."
A little girl, no older than eight, stepped out from behind a bookshelf holding a small flashlight.
She looked frightened—but not surprised.
Michael Carter stared at her with confused eyes.
The girl hugged him tightly.
"It's okay, Grandpa... I'll protect you."
Ethan froze.
"Who... who is she?"
Clara lowered her head.
"Her name is Lily."
"She's your daughter."
The room fell silent.
"My... what?"
Clara nodded.
"Your wife was eight months pregnant when Richard's men kidnapped your mother. She knew they would come for your family, so she disappeared to protect the baby."
Ethan staggered backward.
"I had... a daughter?"
"You've been searching for your parents for years without knowing your own child has been hiding with your father."
Tears filled Ethan's eyes as Lily slowly walked toward him.
She pulled a faded photograph from her pocket.
It showed Ethan holding a newborn baby in the hospital.
"I've carried this picture every day," she whispered.
"My mommy told me that one day... Daddy would come find us."
Before Ethan could embrace her—
BOOM!
The study door exploded inward.
Richard's armed men stormed into the room.
But Richard wasn't smiling anymore.
His eyes were locked on Lily.
"No..." he whispered.
"It can't be..."
Lily looked directly at him and spoke the one sentence Richard feared more than prison.
May you like
"I know where Grandma hid the original ledger."
Every gun in the room turned toward the little girl.
