CHAPTER 8 – THE BILLIONAIRE'S FINAL TRAP
Richard ordered everyone to lower their weapons.
"For the first time in your life," he laughed, "you've become useful."
He grabbed Lily and forced her toward a waiting helicopter on the mansion roof.
Ethan tried to chase them, but dozens of armed guards blocked every exit.
Just as the helicopter lifted off...
Richard's phone rang.
His smile disappeared.
"What?"
The pilot suddenly shouted.
"Sir! Every account has been frozen!"
Richard opened his banking app.
Zero.
Every offshore account...
Every secret company...
Every hidden fortune...
Gone.
At that exact moment, every television in the helicopter switched on automatically.
Breaking News flashed across every screen.
"Richard Carter's Global Financial Empire Seized by Federal Authorities."
Then another face appeared.
The old homeless man.
Alive.
He had survived.
From a hospital bed, he smiled into the camera.
"My name is Samuel Brooks."
"For thirty years, I worked undercover with federal investigators."
"The evidence Richard hunted... was never hidden in a bank."
"It was uploaded to secure government servers six hours ago."
Richard screamed in rage.
"You lied to me!"
Samuel smiled.
"I lied for thirty years."
"You destroyed one family..."
"Now you'll lose everything."
At that exact moment, military helicopters surrounded Richard's aircraft.
There was nowhere left to run.
As federal agents stormed aboard, Richard looked at Ethan one last time.
"You think you've won?"
Ethan didn't answer.
Instead, his father—whose memory had suddenly returned after seeing Lily—slowly stepped forward.
He looked Richard directly in the eyes and spoke the words he had waited thirty years to say.
"You didn't bury me."
"You buried yourself."
Richard was taken away in handcuffs as dawn broke over the mountains.
Ethan embraced his father, his mother, and the daughter he never knew existed.
But as reporters celebrated what they called "the greatest financial takedown in American history," Samuel quietly handed Ethan one final envelope.
Inside was a single photograph.
It showed Richard...
Standing beside Ethan's late wife.
The date on the back was only two weeks old.
