Chapter 11 - The Inheritance of FireThe frost of early December did not reach the inner sanctums of The Citadel. Inside the grand library, where centuries of Sicilian Vanguard ledgers and leather-bound corporate charters lined the walls, Elena sat at a heavy mahogany desk reviewing the restructuring reports of the Visconti global shipping empire.

Her son, Leo, was sleeping soundly in a bassinet nearby, watched over by Nicholas, who stood silently by the fireplace.

"The European council has finalized the asset absorption, Miss Elena," Nicholas reported, his voice smooth and measured. "All of Valentino’s remaining maritime routes in the Mediterranean are now fully under our control. The Visconti name has been scrubbed from every commercial registry in Naples and Palermo."

Elena didn't look up from her ledger. Her fingers traced the margins of a financial document where Valentino’s signature had once stood. Now, her own signature—sharp, bold, and unyielding—superseded his every claim.

"And Valentino?" she asked quietly.

"He was evicted from his temporary motel room in Queens this morning," Nicholas replied. "He has no credit, no allies, and no legal standing. The syndicate has declared him a non-entity. He is entirely alone."

Elena closed the ledger with a soft, decisive thud. "Let him wander. A man who thinks he can build an empire on deceit deserves to watch it turn to ash from the outside looking in."
