As the heart monitor flatlined with a long, continuous tone, a weary nurse stepped into the room, checked his chart, and sighed softly.
"Name?" she muttered to herself, looking at his intake form. "Valentino Visconti. Next of kin?"
She stared at the blank line on the digital tablet where the emergency contact was supposed to be.
