Chapter 25 - The Vanguard’s Unyielding MandateDeep within the stone fortress of The Citadel in the Hudson Valley, the Council of the Sicilian Vanguard was holding its quarterly audit.

The heavy oak doors of the grand boardroom were bolted shut. Around the long walnut table sat the twelve senior elders of the international syndicate, men and women whose families had controlled the Mediterranean trade routes for centuries.
At the head of the table sat Elena.
Nicholas stood beside her, placing the final financial audits before the council members.
"The transition of all illicit assets into fully regulated green-energy infrastructure and global maritime supply chains is now one hundred percent complete," Nicholas announced, his voice echoing through the vaulted stone chamber. "The Vanguard is no longer a shadow syndicate. We are now a legally recognized, tax-compliant global trust holding controlling stakes in clean shipping, sustainable agriculture, and real estate."
An elderly councilman from Palermo, Giuseppe Rossi, leaned forward, resting his weathered hands on his cane. He looked at Elena with profound, unadulterated respect.
"When your father passed, many of us feared the bloodline would dilute under modern pressures," Rossi said, his voice deep and gravelly. "We believed a woman, separated from the old ways of violence and intimidation, would falter."
Elena met his gaze steadily, her expression serene and unyielding.

"Violence is a sign of structural weakness, Councilman Rossi," Elena replied, her voice ringing clear across the room. "True power doesn't require a gun to command obedience. It requires integrity, foresight, and an absolute refusal to be compromised."
Rossi slowly nodded, a rare smile breaking across his weathered face. "You didn't just preserve the Vanguard, Elena. You redeemed it. The throne is yours, unquestioned and eternal."
