Chapter 11 - The Ripple EffectThe transition of power at Moretti Global made international headlines, but the true battle was no longer being fought in the corporate boardrooms or on the front pages of tabloid newspapers. It was happening quietly, inside the walls of our new life.

One afternoon, while the twins were at a weekend art workshop, Luca and I sat across from each other at the rustic oak dining table in our brownstone. Spread out between us were blueprints, legal deeds, and audit reports.

"The restructuring of the philanthropic trust is complete," Luca said, sliding a thick folder toward me. "Every single overseas asset that Evelyn tried to siphon into private shell companies has been successfully clawed back and redirected into the public housing initiative you designed."

I looked up from the papers, my eyes narrowing slightly with affectionate amusement. "You’ve been working sixteen-hour days, Luca. Are you trying to prove something to me, or to yourself?"

He leaned back, resting his arms behind his head, a weary but genuine smile touching his lips. "Both, I suppose. For seven years, work was an escape from a reality I couldn't face. Now... building this trust with you feels like the only honest work I've ever done."

The front door chimed softly, breaking the quiet intimacy of the afternoon.

We both turned our heads as the heavy oak door swung open. Standing in the foyer was a figure we hadn't expected to see for months—if ever again.

It was Marcus Vance, Luca’s former chief legal counsel and the man who had blindly drafted the coercive divorce papers seven years ago under Evelyn's strict instructions. He looked older, gaunt, holding his coat tightly against the crisp autumn chill.

Luca stood up instantly, his chair scraping loudly against the floorboards. The easy warmth in his eyes vanished, replaced by a cold, dangerous steel.

"Marcus," Luca said, his voice dropping an octave. "You have a lot of nerve showing your face here."
