Chapter 8 - The Public ExecutionThe live broadcast blared across the wall-mounted television in my office.

Evelyn Shaw Moretti stood before a wall of flashing camera microphones in the grand marble lobby of Moretti Global. Her hair was immaculate, her posture rigid, but her eyes burned with a maniacal, cornered fury.
“...my son, Luca Moretti, has been subjected to a malicious, calculated extortion plot by a bitter, conniving ex-wife!” Evelyn’s voice echoed sharply through the speakers, carried live by every major news network in the country. “Using children of questionable and unverified lineage, she has illegally seized control of a multi-billion-dollar corporate legacy through fraudulent document manipulation!”
I watched the screen, my blood turning to ice. She was naming names. She was dropping hints about the twins' identities, threatening to unleash paparazzi on their school by noon.
Luca rose slowly from his chair, his face turning an ash-white before flushing with a murderous, terrifying rage.
"She crossed the line," Luca whispered, his voice trembling as he gripped the edge of my desk so hard his knuckles turned translucent. "She brought my children into the media circus. That’s it. She’s done."
"Where are you going?" I asked as he turned abruptly toward the door.
"To finish this," Luca said, his eyes hard as flint. "Once and for all."
"No, Luca," I stood up, stepping around the desk, a fierce, predatory smile spreading across my lips. "Not your way. Our way."
Within twenty minutes, my legal team had coordinated a counter-strike. We didn't issue a press release. We didn't hide behind lawyers. We walked straight down to the lobby ourselves.
As Evelyn was wrapping up her smear campaign, cameras flashing blindingly in her face, the private elevator doors behind the podium slid open with a sharp ding.
The crowd of reporters parted instantly as Luca and I stepped out together.
For the first time in seven years, the world saw us standing side-by-side—united, powerful, and utterly unflinching.
Evelyn stopped mid-sentence, her microphone screeching with feedback as she turned around and saw us standing behind her.
"You..." Evelyn choked out, her face contorting in horror. "You delusional little—"
"Save your breath, Evelyn," I stepped forward, taking the center podium microphone, my voice ringing crystal clear across the national broadcast. "You’ve spent decades ruling this company through fear, manipulation, and lies. But your reign of terror ends today."
Flashbulbs popped frantically. Microphones thrust forward.
Luca stepped up right beside me, slipping his hand gently, deliberately, over mine on the podium. He looked directly into the primary camera lens, addressing the entire nation.

"Every word my mother has spoken in the last five minutes is a desperate lie to protect her stolen empire," Luca announced, his voice steady, commanding, and absolute. "Moretti Global is no longer hers. It belongs to the woman I wrongfully discarded seven years ago, and the two brilliant children I am finally blessed to call my own. We are auditing everything. And no one—least of all her—is above the law."
Evelyn staggered backward, her face draining of all color as she realized the cameras were capturing her complete and utter destruction in real-time.
