CHAPTER 5 — The Son Faced the Monster
Adrian stared at Victoria like he was seeing her for the first time.
"You knew?"
Victoria swallowed hard.
"I protected your father's legacy."
Adrian stepped closer.
"No."
"You protected stolen money."
The entire boardroom fell silent.
Victoria suddenly changed her voice.
Soft.
Sweet.
Fake.
"Adrian, darling... I raised you after your father brought you into this family. I gave you everything."
Eleanor froze.
Adrian turned slowly.
"What did you just say?"
Victoria realized her mistake too late.
The room became colder.
Eleanor whispered,
"He brought you into this family?"
The lawyer opened another folder.
Hospital records.
Adoption papers.
A hidden transfer order.
Adrian was not found by chance.
Richard had taken him from Eleanor when he was only three years old.
Then he told Adrian his mother had died.
Eleanor covered her mouth, shaking.
For the first time, Adrian looked truly broken.

He thought he had been abandoned.
