Chapter 5 - The Saboteur's Card

Victor let out a soft, amused chuckle, walking around the lifted Ferrari, his fingers gently tracing the slick carbon-fiber diffuser.

"Even if that were true, Leo... why would I sabotage our own flagship launch? It would cost the family enterprise billions."

"Because of the insurance policy," Leo replied instantly. "And the stock short. I looked at the offshore trading accounts registered under your shell company in Panama this morning, Victor. You placed a two-hundred-million-dollar short bet against Ferrari’s stock value, set to mature right after the official public track test next week."

Victor stopped walking. His expression turned completely stone-cold. The charming older brother persona evaporated into thin air.

"You were always too smart for your own good, little brother," Victor whispered. "Our father left you the creative genius, the patents, the respect of the engineers. What did he leave me? The paperwork. The board meetings. The endless stress of keeping this bloated empire afloat while you played in the dirt."

"So you were going to kill the test driver just to crash the stock and make a profit?" Leo’s fists clenched tightly at his sides.

"The test driver?" Victor smirked darkly. "Oh, Leo... you poor, naive fool. You were supposed to be the test driver next week. The board unanimously voted yesterday to have you demonstrate the vehicle at the Nürburgring."

Leo took a step back, the horrific truth dawning on him. The sabotage wasn't meant to destroy the car. It was meant to execute him.

"If you die in a tragic, heroic accident while pushing your masterwork to its limits," Victor continued chillingly, "the stock drops for a week, I collect my short payout, and then I inherit your ninety percent share of the design patents. The company skyrockets back up under my total control. It's poetry."

"You're out of your mind," Leo breathed.

May you like

"Maybe," Victor smiled, pulling a small remote control from his suit pocket. "But unlike you, I never leave my success to chance."

Victor pressed a button on the remote. Instantly, the heavy iron security shutters of the service bay slammed down, sealing every exit and locking Leo inside the pitch-black garage.
