Chapter 19 - The Counter-StrikeI didn't blink. I didn't raise my voice. I simply leaned forward, resting my forearms on the glass desk, and looked straight into Vance's confident eyes.

"You really didn't do your homework before flying across the Atlantic, did you, Marcus?" I asked softly.
Vance’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. "What are you talking about?"
"You assume that because Richard set up a trust in Liechtenstein, it was legally airtight," I said, pressing a button on my desk console.
The wall-mounted smart screen behind my desk flickered to life, displaying a certified legal document bearing the official seal of the Liechtenstein High Court.
Vance spun around in his chair, his eyes scanning the glowing text. As he read, the color rapidly drained from his face.
"No," Vance muttered, shaking his head. "That's... that's impossible. This trust was sealed under sovereign asset protection."
"It was," I agreed calmly. "Until three weeks ago, when my legal team discovered a minor clerical error in the original 2014 incorporation filings. Richard forgot to disclose a secondary tax liability tied to foreign currency hedging. Under Liechtenstein civil code, an undisclosed tax lien automatically voids any irrevocable asset protection trust within thirty days of discovery."
I stood up slowly, walking around the desk until I was standing directly over him.
"Which means," I continued, my voice dropping into a razor-sharp register, "the Liechtenstein trust didn't revert to Vanguard Global Holdings. The entire patent portfolio was liquidated at public auction last Tuesday to satisfy the tax debt."
Vance jumped to his feet, his composure completely shattered. "Who bought it? Who could possibly have outbid our reserve capital in forty-eight hours?"
I smiled—a cold, lethal expression that reminded him exactly why people in New York rarely called me kind.
"I did, Marcus. Through an anonymous offshore acquisition fund."
Vance stared at me, his mouth opening slightly, realization crashing over him like a tidal wave. "You... you baited us. You deliberately left the Liechtenstein loophole open so we would try to claim the patents, exposing our international exposure to federal jurisdiction."

"Welcome to modern capitalism," I said, tapping the leather dossier on my desk and pushing it back toward him. "Project Apex is now fully owned by the Foster-Santos Foundation. Public domain for municipal distribution. Your international syndicate has zero legal standing, zero patents, and zero leverage."
Vance backed away toward the door, his hands trembling slightly as he realized the full extent of his trap. Without a word, he turned, grabbed his briefcase, and practically fled down the corridor toward the private elevator.
