Chapter 23 - The Shadow ReturnsThe peace, however, was not destined to remain entirely unchallenged.

Two weeks after the Vanguard collapse, an unexpected package arrived at the corporate intake desk. It wasn't logged through standard courier services, nor did it bear a commercial return address. It was a heavy, unmarked manila envelope hand-delivered by a private courier who vanished into the New York subway before security could log his badge.

It was only the testing ground. There is a safety deposit box at the Zurich Federal Depository registered under your birth certificate. Inside is the original master ledger—the one that details every acquisition, every manufactured crisis, and every family our family broke before you were even old enough to hold a pen. You wanted to fix the world, Daniel? Go ahead. But once you open that box, you'll realize that the foundation of your entire empire—every dollar you inherited, every property you own, every breath you take—was built on the very blood you are now trying to save. — A.
