Chapter 4 - The Federal Trap“Federal Bureau of Investigation! Drop your weapons!”

The cathedral descended into absolute pandemonium. The underworld soldiers tried to scatter, but every exit was sealed by heavily armed federal agents.
In the sudden chaos, a gloved hand grabbed Cole’s arm. It wasn’t Gabriel—it was Vivian. Panic had finally overtaken her calculated composure.
“The back exit!” Vivian shrieked, dragging Cole toward the sacristy doors behind the altar. “They’ve locked down the main gates! Move!”
Cole, distracted by the sudden raid and losing his grip on Lily, let go of the little girl. Lily immediately dropped to the floor, scrambling on all fours straight toward Gabriel’s boots. Gabriel scooped her up in one fluid motion, shielding her small body against his chest as flashbang grenades detonated near the altar, filling the air with blinding light and deafening noise.
“Boss! We’re cut off!” one of Gabriel’s loyal capos yelled, ducking behind a stone pillar as federal bullets chipped away the masonry.
“Cover the east wing!” Gabriel ordered, his eyes locked on the sacristy door where Vivian and Cole were vanishing into the shadows. He handed Lily to his capo. “Keep her safe. If she has a single scratch on her when this is over, you answer to me.”
“Gabe, where are you going?” the capo shouted over the din of gunfire.
“To clean house,” Gabriel muttered darkly.
He didn’t wait for backup. Stripping a fallen agent’s Sig Sauer pistol from the floor, Gabriel vaulted over the pews, ignoring the federal agents shouting commands at him to freeze, and slipped through the heavy velvet curtains leading to the cathedral’s subterranean catacombs.
The air down here was damp, smelling of old stone, burning candles, and subterranean dampness. Footsteps echoed ahead of him—fast, desperate, and heavy.
“Vivian!” Gabriel’s voice echoed down the stone corridor, bouncing off the brick walls like a curse. “You can’t run from your own blood!”
May you like
“Go to hell, Gabe!” Vivian’s voice yelled back from somewhere in the dark ahead, muffled by the sound of a heavy iron door slamming shut.
Gabriel broke into a dead sprint.
