Chapter 17 - The Bloodline Alliance

We crawled out onto the muddy banks of the East River under the cover of the pouring rain, coughing up foul water, gasping for air under the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge.
Nico was waiting in an unmarked black SUV, his rifle trained on the riverbank. When he saw me dragging Grace out of the water, his jaw dropped.
"Boss?" Nico yelled over the roar of the storm. "Why is she still breathing?"
"Because she's the only one who has the biometric clearance to unlock Silas's central mainframe," I said, shoving Grace into the backseat and climbing in beside her. "And because Silas Miller needs to die tonight."
Grace sat shivering in the back, wrapping a wool blanket around her shoulders. The meek maid was gone. The vengeful daughter was gone. What remained was an apex predator who had just realized she was hunting the wrong prey.
"Silas is at the Miller Estate in Long Island," Grace said, her voice dropping into a register of pure, lethal venom. "He’s celebrating with the syndicate leaders tonight. He has fifty private guards, automated turret systems on the perimeter, and panic rooms reinforced with titanium."
"Sounds expensive," I said, checking the action on my secondary sidearm. "How do we breach it?"

Grace looked at me, a cold, dark smirk slowly spreading across her lips. "I designed the estate's security grid, Dominic. I left a backdoor in the thermal imaging system three years ago... just in case I ever needed to kill my uncle."
I looked at her, seeing my own ruthless reflection in her eyes. "Nico, drive to Long Island. It’s time for a family reunion."
