Chapter 6 - Resurrection

Veronica opened her mouth to scream, but before a sound could escape her throat, Grace stepped out from behind the heavy privacy curtain, pressing the barrel of a silenced .38 revolver directly against the back of Veronica's neck.
"Make one sound," Grace whispered sweetly into her ear, "and the grief you've been pretending to feel will become very real."
Veronica trembled violently, the syringe slipping from her fingers and shattering on the floor. "Dominic... please... he made me do it! Anthony threatened my family!"
"Save it for the grand jury," I snarled, ripping the satellite phone from her coat pocket.
The screen was still illuminated with an active call. The caller ID didn't say Anthony. It read: The Architect.
I placed the phone on speaker and set it on the bedside table.
"Is it done?" a deep, muffled voice rasped through the speaker. "Is the titan dead?"
I leaned toward the microphone, letting my voice ring clear and lethal through the speaker. "Not quite, boys. But the wake is officially canceled."
There was a sharp gasp on the other end of the line, followed by the violent static of a disconnected call.
"He's at the high-rise boardroom," Grace said, snatching the phone and running a quick digital trace. "Anthony and the corrupt family lawyers are already gathering at Moretti Tower. They’re signing the emergency power of attorney at dawn."

"Then we have three hours," I said, pulling on a black tailored suit Grace had smuggled into the room inside a laundry bin. "Grace, secure Veronica in the bathroom. Tie her to the pipes."
"Gladly," Grace replied.
