Chapter 8 - The Blood Boardroom

At 5:45 AM, thirty minutes before the New York Stock Exchange opened, the 50th floor of Moretti Tower was buzzing with electric, greedy anticipation.
Anthony Moretti stood at the head of the mahogany conference table, wearing a double-breasted suit, pouring expensive vintage scotch into eight crystal glasses for the corrupt board members and legal team surrounding him.
"To a new chapter," Anthony announced, raising his glass, a ruthless grin stretching across his face. "Dominic was old-school. He let sentimentality drag down our profits. Today, we modernize the family."
"Hear, hear!" the lead lawyer cheered, lifting his pen to sign the emergency conservatorship documents resting on the table.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the boardroom didn't just open—they were blown off their magnetic hinges with a deafening bang.
The glass wall overlooking Manhattan shattered as private tactical security teams flooded the floor, red laser sights painting the chests of every lawyer and board member in the room.
Anthony dropped his glass, the crystal shattering across the hardwood floor.
Through the smoke and flashing red lights, I stepped into the room. Beside me stood Nico, bruised but holding a high-caliber rifle, and Grace, carrying a digital tablet streaming live evidence to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
"Dominic?" Anthony stammered, his face draining of all color until he looked like a corpse. "You're... you're in a coma!"
"I was listening, Cousin," I said softly, walking up to the table and picking up the pen from the trembling hand of the lead lawyer. "I heard everything. Every insult. Every calculation. Every dollar you put on my head."
"This is a mistake!" Anthony screamed, reaching for a hidden gun under the table.

Before his hand could touch the holster, Nico fired a single, non-lethal round through the center of the mahogany table, shattering Anthony’s right hand. Anthony collapsed to his knees, howling in agony.
"The federal marshals are downstairs, Anthony," Grace said, stepping forward and tapping her tablet. "Every transaction you made, every wire transfer from Dr. Harrison's accounts, and the full recorded confession of Veronica Hale have already been uploaded to the U.S. Attorney General's office."
