Chapter 10 - The Empire of the HeartTwo years later, the headlines in the New York Times Business Journal read: “Calloway Living Reports Record Growth, Shifting Focus to Sustainable Community Living.”

Inside the executive suite on the 42nd floor, the giant glass windows looked out over a bustling, vibrant skyline. But the office had changed. The cold, intimidating monolith of dark mahogany and austere metal was gone, replaced by warm wood tones, vibrant green plants, and a comfortable reading nook by the window.

At 5:45 AM, the private kitchen attached to the office hummed with quiet warmth.

The rich aroma of freshly brewed Colombian coffee filled the air.

Grant sat at the kitchen island, scrolling through a tablet, wearing a comfortable sweater instead of a rigid suit jacket.

Footsteps approached—soft, steady, and unmistakable.

A pair of arms wrapped around his shoulders from behind, and a mug of coffee was gently placed on the marble counter right in front of him.

Grant reached up, placing his hand over Evelyn’s ring-bearing finger, feeling the familiar, reassuring warmth of the gold ivy leaves.

"You're late today, Mrs. Calloway," Grant teased without looking up, a warm smile spreading across his face.

"The traffic in the hallway was terrible," Evelyn replied, leaning down to press a soft kiss against the top of his head. "Apparently, the new vice president of operations doesn't know how to operate the espresso machine."

Grant chuckled, pulling her around to sit on his lap. He wrapped his arms tightly around her, burying his face in her neck just for a moment, breathing her in like a man who knew he had cheated the darkest depths of fate and won.

"Let him burn the coffee," Grant whispered, his eyes shining with absolute devotion. "As long as you're here, my empire is complete."

Evelyn smiled, resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady, unbreakable rhythm of his heartbeat—the only sound in the world that truly mattered.
