Chapter 18 - The Public Execution

The ballroom gasped as Grant’s voice filled the high ceilings.

"My father, Richard Sterling, orchestrated the financial sabotage of Vance Logistics," Grant’s recorded voice declared clearly. "He instructed me to marry Mara Vance to gain access to her trust accounts. And six years ago, he paid a mechanic fifty thousand dollars to cut the brake lines on Arthur Vance’s vehicle."

The room erupted into absolute chaos. Reporters rushed forward, flashbulbs exploding like blinding lightning. Board members pulled off their glasses in shock, backing away from Richard on stage as if he were covered in poison.

Richard’s composure finally shattered. His face turned purple with rage. "This is a setup! That boy is a convicted fraudster! He’s lying to save his own skin!"

"He isn't the only one who talked, Richard," I said, taking a small remote control from my evening clutch and clicking a button.

The screen changed again. This time, it displayed bank routing sheets showing direct transfers from Richard’s personal account to the offshore shell company tied to the mechanic—along with the original handwritten notebook provided by Evelyn.

"You thought you were playing chess with me, Richard," I said, my voice cold and unwavering under the flashing cameras. "You thought because I stayed quiet while your son humiliated me, I was weak. But you forgot one thing."

I stepped up onto the stage, standing face-to-face with the man who had ordered my father’s murder.

"My father taught me how to build," I whispered so only he could hear. "And you taught me how to destroy."
