CHAPTER 3 – The Daughter Who Was Never With His Lawyer

Emily arrived at the abandoned office building with the recorder hidden inside her coat.

The hallway smelled like dust and old rain.

At the end of the corridor, Lily sat tied to a chair, crying softly.

"Mommy!"

Emily ran toward her—

But the lights suddenly turned on.

Ryan stepped out of the shadows, clapping slowly.

"How touching."

Sophia stood beside him, holding Emily's phone in her hand.

"You really thought you could outsmart us?"

Emily's stomach dropped.

Ryan smiled.

"The police won't help you. My lawyer already filed a report saying you kidnapped Lily during a mental breakdown."

Emily stared at him in horror.

"You used our daughter as bait?"

"Our daughter?" Ryan laughed coldly. "After tonight, no one will believe she was ever safe with you."

Then Sophia lifted a small camera.

"We just need one final video. You screaming. Acting crazy. Threatening us. Then everything becomes easy."

Emily looked at Lily.

Her little girl was shaking.

For one terrifying second, Emily looked defeated.

Then she whispered, "Lily... close your eyes."

Ryan frowned.

"What did you say?"

Emily reached into her coat.

Sophia gasped, thinking it was a weapon.

But Emily pulled out the recorder.

Ryan's face turned pale.

Every threat. Every confession. Every cruel word from that living room began playing out loud.

Sophia froze.

Ryan lunged forward—

And at that exact moment, the office doors burst open.

Police officers rushed in.

The man from the restaurant photo stepped forward, flashing his badge.

"Ryan Carter, you're under arrest for kidnapping, extortion, fraud, and conspiracy."

Ryan screamed, "This is my wife! She's unstable!"

The detective looked at Emily.

Then at Lily.

Then at the recorder.

"No," he said coldly. "She was smart enough to survive you."

As officers dragged Ryan away, he turned and shouted one last thing.

"You think this is over, Emily?"

Emily held Lily tightly.

But from across the room, Sophia suddenly smiled.

Because hidden in her purse...

Was a second set of documents.

And those papers revealed a secret even Emily never knew.
