Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation at St. Matthew’sThree days later, Lily was finally discharged from the ICU, her little face bright and rosy as she clutched her favorite stuffed rabbit in her arms.

I wheeled her out through the grand marble lobby of St. Matthew’s Hospital, escorted by two private security guards and Dr. Bennett. Flashbulbs didn't blind us—Uncle Marcus had ensured the media storm was tightly controlled to protect Lily’s privacy—but the corporate shockwaves had already reverberated through the entire medical community.

As we reached the glass sliding doors of the main entrance, a disheveled, desperate figure stepped out from behind a concrete pillar, blocking our path.

It was Daniel.

He looked ten years older. His suit was wrinkled, his hair unwashed, and his eyes wild and bloodshot. He had been released on a massive federal bond, but his assets were frozen, his bank accounts seized, and his apartment repossessed by the bank.

"Emily! Lily! Wait, please!" Daniel cried out, stumbling forward, his hands outstretched.

Dr. Bennett instantly stepped in front of my wheelchair, his expression like granite. The two security guards moved in, their massive frames forming an impenetrable wall between us and Daniel.

"Get away from them, Carter," Dr. Bennett warned coldly. "You have a restraining order keeping you five hundred yards away from both Emily and this child."

"Emily, please! Just listen to me for one minute!" Daniel sobbed, ignoring the doctor and staring directly at me, tears streaming down his face. "It was a mistake! I panicked! Vanessa manipulated me, she threatened to expose our affair if I didn't help her get treatment! I never meant to hurt Lily! You know I love my daughter!"

I looked down at Lily, who instinctively clutched my hand tighter, burying her face against my coat.

Then I looked up at Daniel. The man I had loved, trusted, and supported for a decade. The man who had traded his own flesh and blood for a cheap affair and thought he could discard us like trash.

I stood up slowly from the edge of the wheelchair, stepping past Dr. Bennett so I was standing face-to-face with my estranged husband.

"You didn't panic, Daniel," I said, my voice cutting through the lobby like a razor blade. "You calculated. You weighed the life of your own daughter against the convenience of your mistress, and you decided Lily was disposable."

"No... no, Emily, we can fix this! We can go back to counseling! We can—"

"There is nothing to fix," I interrupted smoothly, pulling a thin gold pen from my pocket and holding it up so he could see the Sterling Healthcare executive crest engraved on its side.

"What... what is that?" Daniel whispered, his eyes widening in sudden horror.

"This," I smiled coldly, "is the pen I used this morning to permanently revoke your pension, strip your medical license, and liquidate every remaining corporate asset you tried to hide in your secret offshore accounts."

Daniel staggered backward as if he had been physically struck in the chest. "You... you liquidated my accounts? You can't do that! That's my money!"

"It’s Sterling money, Daniel," I replied softly, stepping closer so only he could hear. "And since I own fifty-one percent of this entire hospital network, and Uncle Marcus just handed the federal prosecutor every single embezzlement receipt that Vanessa happily provided us this morning... you're not just losing your job."

I paused, leaning in close to his ear.

"You're going to prison for a very, very long time. Goodbye, Daniel."
