CHAPTER 2 – SHE CHOSE THE POOR MAN... WHILE THE BILLIONAIRE'S EX PLOTTED HER REVENGE

The black helicopter landed just outside Willow Creek at exactly 9:15 the next morning.

The entire town gathered to watch.

Luxury SUVs rolled onto the dusty road.

Men in tailored suits stepped out first.

Then came Victoria Kensington.

Wrapped in a designer white coat worth more than most families in town earned in a year, she removed her sunglasses and smiled with icy confidence.

She wasn't there to win Alexander back.

She was there to destroy the only woman who had shown him genuine kindness.

Emily had just finished her breakfast shift when the restaurant suddenly fell silent.

Victoria walked in.

Behind her stood four bodyguards.

The restaurant owner rushed over immediately.

"What an honor!"

Victoria ignored him.

Instead...

She walked directly toward Emily.

"So..."

"You're the waitress who likes collecting homeless men."

The customers burst into awkward laughter.

Emily remained calm.

"I'm sorry... have we met?"

Victoria smiled.

"Oh..."

"You'll know exactly who I am."

She placed a thick envelope on the table.

Inside was fifty thousand dollars in cash.

"Leave him."

"Disappear today."

"And the money is yours."

The restaurant became completely silent.

Emily slowly pushed the envelope back.

"You should keep your money."

Victoria blinked.

Emily continued.

"If helping someone requires a price..."

"Then it isn't kindness."

The smile disappeared from Victoria's face.

Outside the restaurant...

Alexander had heard everything.

Hidden across the street beneath his old cap...

He watched Emily reject more money than she had probably ever seen in her life.

Without hesitation.

Without even opening the envelope.

His heart tightened.

For years...

Women had fought over his fortune.

Yet the one woman who had almost nothing...

Had just refused fifty thousand dollars for a stranger she believed was poor.

Victoria wasn't finished.

That evening...

She hired private investigators.

Within hours they had fabricated documents claiming Alexander was a convicted fraudster.

The fake files spread through town overnight.

By morning...

Everyone believed them.

Neighbors stopped greeting him.

The furniture workshop fired him immediately.

Children pointed at him in the street.

Even Emily's landlord warned her.

"That man will ruin your reputation."

Alexander quietly packed his backpack.

Maybe this experiment had gone too far.

Maybe Emily deserved a peaceful life without him.

He left a short handwritten note.

"Thank you for believing in me when nobody else did."

Then he disappeared before sunrise.

Emily returned from work to find the apartment empty.

Only the note remained.

She read it once.

Then twice.

Tears filled her eyes.

Something felt wrong.

She didn't believe the rumors.

She didn't believe the documents.

Most importantly...

She believed the man she had come to know.

So she made a decision that shocked the entire town.

She quit her job.

Ignored everyone's warnings.

And began searching for Alexander across every shelter, church, and abandoned building in Willow Creek.

For seven days...

She couldn't find him.

Until an elderly homeless veteran quietly whispered...

"I think I know where your friend went."

"He saved someone's life yesterday."

Emily's heart pounded.

"Where?"

The old man pointed toward an abandoned warehouse near the river.

But neither of them knew...

Several black SUVs had already surrounded the building.

Victoria had arrived first.

And this time...

She wasn't coming with money.

She was coming with something far more dangerous—

May you like

A secret from Alexander's past that could destroy both of their lives forever.
