🔥 CHAPTER 4 — THE PERSON NO ONE SUSPECTED

Just after midnight, the intensive care unit was almost silent.
Only the steady rhythm of heart monitors echoed through the hallway.
A nurse making her rounds noticed Marina's hospital room door slightly open.
She frowned.
She clearly remembered closing it.
Inside, a man wearing a doctor's coat stood beside Marina's bed.
His surgical mask covered most of his face.
The nurse smiled politely.
"I don't remember another examination being scheduled."
The man didn't answer.
Instead...
He reached toward the IV line.
Something about the movement felt wrong.
The nurse's expression changed instantly.
"Excuse me..."
The man froze.
"Which department are you from?"
For one second, neither of them moved.
Then the stranger suddenly shoved the nurse aside and sprinted toward the emergency stairwell.
"Security!" she screamed.
"Stop him!"
Within seconds, alarms echoed throughout the hospital.
Security officers chased the fleeing man through the corridors before tackling him near the parking garage.
When they ripped off his mask, every officer stared in disbelief.
It wasn't a doctor.
It was Viktor.
Alexei's personal financial adviser.
The same man who had managed the couple's investments for nearly eight years.
Detectives rushed to interrogate him.
At first, Viktor refused to speak.
But after hours of questioning, he finally broke.
"It wasn't supposed to happen like this..."
"What do you mean?" the detective asked.
Viktor buried his face in his hands.
"The debt..."
"It was all about the debt."
Over the past year, Alexei had secretly lost millions through reckless investments and illegal gambling.
Desperate to hide the losses, he borrowed enormous sums from dangerous lenders.
When repayment became impossible, Viktor helped him conceal the missing money by forging financial records.
But there was only one way to replace everything before the fraud was discovered.
Marina's fortune.
Alexei believed that if Marina died in what looked like a tragic accident, he could eventually gain access to enough assets to cover the losses and walk away untouched.
What he never knew...
Was that Marina had quietly removed him from every account weeks earlier.
The detective closed the file slowly.
"So he tried to kill the only person who could have saved him."
Viktor nodded.
"Yes."
"And now..."
"...he has nothing."
Days later, Marina finally left the hospital in a wheelchair.
Outside, hundreds of reporters waited.
One journalist shouted,
"Do you have anything to say to your husband?"
Marina looked directly into the cameras.
Her voice was calm but unwavering.
"I spent years believing that love was built on trust."
She paused.
"But trust should never replace wisdom."
"If something feels wrong, don't ignore it."
"Sometimes the people smiling beside you are hiding the darkest intentions."
The clip spread across social media within hours.
Millions watched.
Millions shared.
Weeks later, Alexei stood inside a courtroom as the jury delivered its unanimous verdict.
Guilty.
He lowered his head, realizing that the fortune he had been willing to kill for was never his to claim.
As officers led him away in handcuffs, he looked back one final time.
Marina was standing at the courtroom entrance.
She didn't smile.
She didn't celebrate.
She simply turned around...
May you like
and walked toward a new life he would never be part of.
For Alexei, the train ride that was meant to erase his past had instead become the journey that exposed it forever.
