🔥 CHAPTER 5 — THE SECRET MARINA HAD NEVER TOLD ANYONE

Alexei's conviction should have been the end of the story.

But for Marina...

It was only the beginning.

A week after the trial, she returned to the beautiful estate where she and Alexei had once planned their future together.

The house was silent.

Every room held memories she no longer wanted.

She slowly packed photographs into boxes, removed framed wedding pictures from the walls, and placed her wedding ring inside a small wooden drawer.

She never intended to wear it again.

As she reached the study, her phone suddenly rang.

The caller ID displayed an unfamiliar number.

"Mrs. Volkov?" a calm male voice asked.

"Yes."

"My name is Detective Leonov."

"I believe your husband wasn't acting alone."

Marina froze.

"What do you mean?"

"We've uncovered financial records showing millions of dollars disappeared from your companies over the past two years."

"But that's impossible," Marina replied.

"I personally reviewed every annual report."

There was a long silence.

Then the detective spoke carefully.

"You reviewed forged reports."

An hour later, Marina arrived at the Financial Crimes Division.

Stacks of documents covered an enormous conference table.

Bank transfers.

Hidden accounts.

Fake contracts.

Dozens of forged signatures.

One by one, investigators explained everything.

Alexei and Viktor had secretly drained company funds through shell businesses, hoping Marina would never notice.

But what shocked her most wasn't the amount of money.

It was one familiar name that kept appearing throughout the documents.

Elena Petrova.

Marina stared at the page.

Her heart stopped.

"No..."

"It can't be."

Elena wasn't just another executive.

She had been Marina's closest friend since university.

The woman she trusted like a sister.

The same woman who had stood beside her as maid of honor at her wedding.

Detective Leonov looked at her sympathetically.

"We believe Ms. Petrova helped hide the stolen money."

Marina felt sick.

Every celebration.

Every family dinner.

Every vacation.

Elena had smiled beside her while secretly helping destroy her life.

Later that evening, Marina asked Elena to meet at a quiet café.

Elena arrived wearing a bright smile.

"I was so worried about you."

She reached out for a hug.

Marina didn't move.

Instead, she quietly slid a folder across the table.

Elena opened it.

Inside were copies of the forged financial records.

Her smile vanished instantly.

"I..."

"You don't have to explain," Marina interrupted.

"I just want one answer."

"Why?"

Tears filled Elena's eyes.

"They threatened my family."

"They said if I refused, they would ruin my husband and take everything we owned."

"I thought I could fix it later."

"But it kept getting worse."

Marina looked at the woman she had once trusted more than anyone.

"You should have trusted me instead."

Without another word, she stood up and walked away.

Behind her, Elena quietly broke down in tears.

But someone else had been watching their meeting from across the street.

A black SUV.

Its engine still running.

The driver slowly picked up a phone.

"It's her," he whispered.

"She's starting to uncover everything."

A cold voice answered from the other end.

"Then don't let her uncover the rest."

Marina had no idea...

The most dangerous person involved in the conspiracy had yet to reveal himself.
