CHAPTER 3 — The Man Who Was Supposed To Stay Dead

By sunrise, Daniel Ross was no longer just a homeless stranger.

He was a headline.

Every news channel replayed the same footage: a soaked man kneeling beside billionaire CEO Michael Harrington, saving his life while everyone else stood back.

But one detail terrified the wrong people.

The camera had captured Daniel’s face.

Inside a private penthouse, Victor Kane—the silver-haired board member of Harrington Global—stood before a wall of security monitors.

For twenty years, Victor had slept peacefully believing Daniel Ross was buried beneath a false military report.

Now the dead man was walking.

And worse...

Michael had seen him.

Victor turned to his security chief.

“Find him before Michael talks.”

The man nodded.

“And if he refuses to come quietly?”

Victor’s face went cold.

“Then make sure he disappears again.”

Meanwhile, Daniel hid beneath an old bridge, staring at the dog tag in his palm.

He had spent twenty years running from one memory.

The night of the mission.

The explosion.

The betrayal.

Michael’s father begging him to protect a sealed black file.

Daniel closed his fist around the tag.

Then he heard footsteps.

A young woman stepped from the shadows, holding an umbrella.

“Captain Ross?”

Daniel instantly reached for the knife hidden in his sleeve.

She raised both hands.

“My name is Emily Harrington.”

Daniel froze.

Michael’s daughter.

Emily’s voice trembled.

“My father said you know who tried to kill him.”

May you like

Daniel looked away.

“No. I know who killed everyone else.”
