CHAPTER 3 – THE NOTEBOOK OF THE DEAD OFFICER

The bloodstained notebook changed everything.

Detective Harris stood inside the hidden basement of the cabin, reading the final sentence again.

"If Max ever brings someone here... trust the dog, not the people."

Beside him, Max sat silently, staring at a locked metal door in the corner.

The officers thought the case was finished.

But Max knew better.

When they forced the door open, everyone froze.

Inside was not a storage room.

It was a secret office.

The walls were covered with photographs, maps, and names of missing children. But in the center of the room was one photo that made Detective Harris go pale.

It showed Max's missing handler, Officer Daniel Reed.

Alive.

Standing beside the kidnapper.

Everyone in the room fell silent.

One officer whispered, "Was Daniel working with him?"

Max suddenly growled.

Not at the photo.

At Detective Harris.

The detective stepped back, trying to hide the fear in his eyes.

Then Lily, still wrapped in a blanket outside, remembered something.

"The bad man said... a policeman helped him."

The crowd gasped.

Detective Harris turned coldly toward the child.

"She's confused. Take her home."

But Max barked violently, blocking Lily from leaving.

That was when Carter noticed something in Harris's hand.

A small silver key.

The same symbol was carved into the hidden door.

Carter's blood ran cold.

The real monster had been standing with them the whole time.
