CHAPTER 4 – MAX'S FINAL WARNING

Detective Harris pulled his gun.
The forest exploded into chaos.
Parents screamed. Officers ducked behind trees. Carter grabbed Lily and pushed her behind his truck.
Harris smiled bitterly.
"That dog should've died with Daniel."
Max's ears lifted.
The name of his handler made him tremble—but he did not back down.
Harris revealed the truth.
Officer Daniel Reed had discovered a child-trafficking ring hidden behind respected men in the town. Judges. Business owners. Police officers.
When Daniel refused to stay silent, they trapped him at the cabin.
They thought they killed him.
They buried the truth.
But Max escaped.
For six months, the loyal dog had guarded the cabin, waiting for someone innocent enough to expose what the adults were too afraid to see.
Lily.
Harris aimed his gun at Max.
Before he could fire, Max lunged.
The shot rang out.
Everyone screamed.
Max collapsed to the ground.
But he had knocked Harris down long enough for the officers to arrest him.
Lily crawled toward Max, sobbing into his fur.
"Please don't leave me..."
Then Max weakly lifted his head and looked toward the cabin.
Carter followed his gaze.
Behind a loose wooden wall, they found a hidden tunnel.
And at the end of that tunnel...
A man was breathing.
Weak. Starving. Barely alive.
Officer Daniel Reed opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was Max.
And with tears falling down his face, he whispered:
"Good boy... you brought them back."
May you like
But just as everyone believed the nightmare was over, Daniel grabbed Carter's arm and whispered one final warning.
"There are more cabins."
