CHAPTER 2 — The Hidden Cameras Revealed More Than Anyone Was Prepared to See

The first video appeared without warning.
Date.
Time.
Location.
Executive Floor — Waverly Pacific Headquarters.
Grant walked into his private office.
Seconds later...
Sabrina entered behind him.
The ballroom remained silent.
Guests watched the giant projection screen above the stage.
Grant froze.
"Turn it off!" he shouted.
No one moved.
The hotel technicians stared helplessly.
"I... I can't."
"The system's been overridden."
Another recording started.
Grant could be heard laughing.
"Claire still thinks she's a partner."
Sabrina laughed with him.
"She built half the company."
"So?"
Grant shrugged.
"Pregnant women don't win boardroom wars."
More whispers spread across the ballroom.
One board member quietly removed his glasses.
Another reached for his phone.
The next recording was worse.
Far worse.
Grant sat inside a private conference room with the company's chief financial officer.
"We move the patents overseas after the merger."
"And Claire?"
"Once the baby's born..."
Grant smiled.
"...she signs everything."
"If she refuses?"
He shrugged again.
"My lawyers already drafted the incapacity petition."
Several guests gasped.
Claire's father slowly stood.
His face had turned completely white.
"Incapacity?"
Dr. Melanie Foster covered her mouth.
She immediately understood.
Grant intended to convince the court Claire suffered postpartum mental instability before she even gave birth.
With legal guardianship...
He could seize her voting rights.
Control her shares.
Control the company.
Control the baby.
Grant lunged toward the projector.
Security guards instinctively stepped between him and the stage.
"Move!"
Nobody moved.
Then...
The next recording began.
A private dinner.
Grant.
Sabrina.
And a man Claire had never expected to see.
Attorney Richard Sloan.
The family's legal advisor for fifteen years.
Grant slid a thick envelope across the table.
"I need Claire's signature duplicated."
Richard hesitated.
"Forgery?"
Grant leaned closer.
"Temporary paperwork."
"You'll receive three million."
Richard looked down.
Then accepted the envelope.
Claire's mother burst into tears.
"No..."
Her voice cracked.
"Richard was your grandfather's attorney."
Another screen appeared.
Bank transfers.
Offshore accounts.
Luxury apartments.
Secret payments.
Shell companies.
One after another.
Every lie.
Every theft.
Every affair.
Every betrayal.
Grant suddenly realized something.
He slowly turned toward Claire.
"You..."
"You planned this."
Claire nodded.
"For eleven months."
Sabrina's confidence disappeared.
She grabbed Grant's arm.
"Fix this."
He couldn't.
Because Claire quietly reached into her purse again.
This time...
She held up a single folded document.
The transfer agreement.
Signed.
Notarized.
Filed that afternoon.
The voting shares Grant had spent years trying to control...
...no longer belonged to Claire.
They belonged to an independent family trust.
One he could never touch.
Grant's face lost all color.
"You gave them away?"
Claire smiled.
"No."
"I protected them."
Then she gently rested both hands on her stomach.
"And I protected our son."
Outside the ballroom...
News vans had already begun arriving.
