CHAPTER 4 — The Billionaire's Last Weapon Was Their Unborn Son

Grant Waverly refused to believe the nightmare was over.
Forty-eight hours after the birthday scandal, every major news channel in America replayed the same horrifying clip.
A pregnant woman.
A torn maternity dress.
A billionaire CEO.
One act of cruelty.
One livestream.
One empire collapsing before millions of viewers.
But Grant wasn't thinking about prison.
He was thinking about control.
Inside the holding room of his attorney's office, he slammed a thick folder onto the conference table.
"I don't care what it costs."
"I want custody of my son."
His lead attorney stared at him.
"Grant... you're under federal investigation."
"So?"
"The court won't simply hand you a newborn."
Grant leaned forward.
"They don't have to."
"They only have to believe Claire is unstable."
He slid another document across the table.
Medical records.
Therapy notes.
Private counseling appointments.
His attorney frowned.
"Where did you get these?"
Grant smiled coldly.
"I had access to every insurance account in the family."
The attorney suddenly understood.
"You've been collecting information on your own wife?"
"For years."
He intended to prove Claire suffered from anxiety during pregnancy.
That she was emotionally overwhelmed.
That she wasn't mentally fit to make major decisions after childbirth.
None of it was enough on its own.
But mixed with edited videos...
Manipulated emails...
And paid expert witnesses...
It might create just enough doubt.
Grant's attorney quietly closed the folder.
"I'm not representing you anymore."
Grant blinked.
"What?"
"You asked me to defend a businessman."
"Not destroy a mother."
The lawyer stood up.
"I resign."
One by one, three more attorneys walked out.
Grant found himself sitting alone.
For the first time in twenty years...
Money couldn't buy loyalty.
Meanwhile, Claire remained under observation at St. Matthew Medical Center after experiencing stress-related contractions.
Dr. Melanie Foster entered her room carrying fresh test results.
"The baby's heart looks strong."
Claire finally smiled.
"What about me?"
Melanie hesitated.
"You need complete rest."
"No interviews."
"No media."
"No stress."
Claire nodded.
Then her phone vibrated.
Unknown Number.
She answered.
A distorted male voice spoke only one sentence.
"If you testify against Grant..."
"...you'll never get to raise that baby."
The line went dead.
Claire slowly lowered the phone.
Her heartbeat accelerated.
May you like
Someone wasn't trying to save Grant anymore.
Someone was trying to silence her forever.
