Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Twist

Claire froze, the blood draining entirely from her face. The air in the room suddenly felt suffocating.
"What... what are you talking about?" Claire stammered, taking a step backward.
Dante walked slowly toward her, his dark eyes piercing through her soul. "Marco was a traitor, yes. Salvatore wanted my throne, absolutely. But a multi-million-dollar assassination plot coordinated with international syndicates requires more than disgruntled lieutenants and ambitious uncles. It requires an inside intelligence broker."
"I... I'm just a housekeeper!" Claire protested, her voice cracking with rising panic. "I clean your estate! I live paycheck to paycheck!"
"You earned enough cleaning my estate to pay off your late husband's hospital debt in six months—a debt that totaled over half a million dollars," Dante countered smoothly, stopping just inches from her. "An underground medical debt that was mysteriously cleared in full three days ago by an offshore shell company linked directly to the Russian Syndicate."
Claire’s breath hitched. She couldn't speak.
"You thought you played your part perfectly, Claire," Dante continued, his voice dangerously soft. "You staged the whole thing. You told Lily to wander out to the driveway at precisely 12:17. You coached her to draw the car, to point at Marco, to create the exact chaos we needed to destabilize my empire from within. But you made one fatal miscalculation."
Claire shook her head furiously. "No! That's insane! She's a three-year-old child! She doesn't know anything about syndicates!"
"She doesn't," Dante agreed, his gaze shifting briefly toward the sofa where Lily was sleeping. "Children are innocent. They draw what they are told to draw. But when Lily pointed at Marco, she wasn't pointing at him because she saw him hiding last night... she pointed at him because you told her to practice that exact finger gesture during breakfast."

Before Claire could lunge toward the door, Dante raised his hand, and the heavy metal shutters of the warehouse locked automatically with a loud, mechanical clack.
At that exact moment, the front doors of the warehouse blew inward with a massive explosion of splinters and steel.
