CHAPTER 7 — The Man From the Past Walked Into Emma’s Life

Six months after the trial, Emma's Table had become a symbol of hope across America.

Every day, hundreds of people came not only for a hot meal, but for something they had almost forgotten existed—

Respect.

No one was asked how much money they had.

No one was judged by the clothes they wore.

Everyone sat together.

Doctors.

Construction workers.

Single mothers.

Veterans.

Former prisoners trying to rebuild their lives.

Richard insisted on one rule.

"No one eats alone."

One Saturday morning, Emma helped hand out breakfast like she always did.

She greeted every guest with the same bright smile.

"Good morning!"

"I hope you're hungry!"

An elderly man suddenly stopped in front of her.

His hands began to shake.

He stared at Emma as if he had seen a ghost.

Then tears rolled down his weathered face.

"You..."

"You remind me of my daughter."

Emma gently hugged him.

"I'm sorry she's not here."

The man sobbed uncontrollably.

Richard noticed everything from across the dining hall.

He quietly walked over.

The moment he saw the stranger's face...

He froze.

"No..."

"It can't be."

The old man looked up.

"Richard?"

Richard dropped the tray he was holding.

The entire room fell silent.

The stranger was Samuel Brooks

Richard's childhood best friend.

Forty years earlier, they had built Harrison Construction together with nothing more than an old pickup truck, borrowed tools, and impossible dreams.

But Samuel had disappeared decades ago after a devastating factory explosion that everyone believed had killed him.

Richard embraced him tightly.

"I thought you were dead."

Samuel smiled sadly.

"I wish I had been."

Then he whispered words that made Richard's blood run cold.

May you like

"The explosion wasn't an accident."

"Someone ordered it."
