The wolves formed a perfect circle around the wheelchair.

The old man's breathing stopped.

The alpha let out another soft whimper.

The old man reached out with trembling fingers.
Everyone always said wolves never remembered humans.
Everyone was wrong.
The alpha leaned into his touch.
For the first time in decades...
The old man no longer felt abandoned.

His children were celebrating.
Victor uncorked an expensive bottle of champagne.
Emily laughed while browsing luxury vacation homes online.
Ryan forced himself to smile, though guilt gnawed at him.
"By tomorrow," Victor said confidently, raising his glass,
"we'll finally own everything."
His phone rang.
It was the family lawyer.
Victor answered with a grin.
"Already?"
The lawyer's voice sounded strangely tense.
"I need to ask something."
"Has your father contacted you tonight?"
Victor froze.
"No."
"Why?"
The lawyer hesitated.
"Because this afternoon your father signed new legal documents."
The room went silent.
"What documents?"
"A confidential trust."
"Every dollar..."
"Every property..."
"And every acre of land..."
"...will automatically be donated to children's hospitals and wildlife conservation foundations if his death is considered suspicious."
Victor's face turned white.
Emily dropped her glass.
Ryan nearly collapsed.
"What?"
The lawyer continued quietly.
"There's one more thing."
"Your father scheduled a meeting with state investigators tomorrow morning."
"If anything happens to him before then..."
"The authorities will receive a sealed file containing years of financial records... and personal letters."
Victor's hands began shaking.
"What letters?"
"The kind..."
"...that explain exactly how your mother really died."
The line went dead.
No one in the room spoke.
For years, they believed their mother died in a tragic accident.
