CHAPTER 4 — The Letter Their Mother Never Wanted Them to Read

The next morning...
The sheriff's office overflowed with reporters.
News helicopters circled overhead.
Across America, millions of people watched the unbelievable story of the wolves protecting an abandoned old man.
Inside a private conference room...
The old man sat beside Sarah.
Across the table sat the family lawyer.
He carefully placed a thick envelope on the table.
"I promised your wife I would never open this unless something happened to you."
The old man's hands trembled.
"I suppose..."
"It's time."
Inside was an old handwritten letter.
The paper had yellowed with age.
Sarah slowly began reading aloud.
"To my children...
If you are reading this, it means your father is no longer safe.
Before you judge him, you deserve to know the truth.
Your father never ruined our family.
He spent his entire life protecting it."
Sarah stopped.
Tears rolled down her face.
The lawyer nodded gently.
"Years ago, I discovered that my own brother had been stealing money from our family business.
When your father confronted him, he threatened to destroy all of us.
Your father accepted the blame publicly to keep our family safe.
Everyone believed he had made terrible financial decisions.
He never defended himself because I begged him not to."
Sarah looked at her father in disbelief.
"You sacrificed your reputation..."
He quietly nodded.
"It was the only way."
The letter continued.
"The stress destroyed my health.
My illness was never caused by your father.
He cared for me every single day until my final breath.
Promise me...
Never let greed destroy what love spent a lifetime building."
The room fell silent.
Sarah cried openly.
Even the sheriff lowered his head.
At that exact moment...
Another officer rushed inside.
"Sheriff!"
"We've arrested Victor."
"What?"
"He tried to destroy the family computers after learning about the investigation."
"And Emily?"
"She's at the airport."
"We've already alerted federal authorities."
Ryan, overwhelmed by guilt, had turned himself in voluntarily.
"I'll tell you everything," he confessed.
"It was Victor's idea..."
"I should have stopped him."
Meanwhile...
Outside the courthouse...
Hundreds of reporters surrounded the entrance.
But none of them noticed one lonely figure standing quietly beneath the trees across the street.
The giant alpha wolf.
It watched the courthouse for several minutes.
Its amber eyes met the old man's through the window one last time.
The old man slowly raised his hand.
"Thank you... old friend."
The alpha gave one final howl.
Then disappeared into the forest forever.
Everyone believed that was the end.
They were wrong.
Because later that afternoon...
The lawyer opened one final locked box.
Inside was a deed to an enormous piece of wilderness.
And attached to it was a note written in the old man's handwriting:
"This forest belongs to the wolves now.
They protected me when my own family would not."
The decision stunned the entire nation.
But one week later, something even more unbelievable happened.
Wildlife cameras captured the alpha wolf standing proudly on the highest ridge of the newly protected land...
As if it knew...
May you like
The promise made more than thirty years earlier had finally been fulfilled.
