CHAPTER 1 — "The Man Everyone Laughed At"

No one knew why security hadn't stopped him.

The grand ballroom glittered beneath crystal chandeliers as America's richest businessmen, politicians, and celebrities toasted another year of unimaginable success. Cameras flashed. Waiters poured champagne worth thousands of dollars a bottle.

Then the massive oak doors slowly opened.

A homeless man stepped inside.

His gray hoodie was torn. His boots were falling apart. His face was weathered by years of hardship, and every guest instinctively turned away in disgust.

The music faded.

Conversations stopped.

Someone whispered,

"Who let this bum in here?"

Another guest laughed.

"This has to be some kind of social experiment."

Within seconds, phones were pointed at him. Some guests recorded videos, eager to post the embarrassing interruption online.

The event host frowned.

"Sir, you're not welcome here."

Security immediately surrounded the stranger.

The homeless man never argued.

He simply kept walking.

One slow step after another.

His calmness somehow made everyone even more uncomfortable.

A wealthy businessman blocked his path.

"Do you even know where you are?"

The homeless man quietly replied,

"I do."

The crowd burst into laughter.

One elegant woman covered her nose dramatically.

"The smell alone should get him arrested."

Another millionaire tossed a folded twenty-dollar bill onto the marble floor.

"There... buy yourself dinner and leave."

The bill landed at the man's feet.

He stared at it for several seconds...

...then calmly stepped over it without saying a word.

That simple action silenced several people.

Why wouldn't a homeless man pick up free money?

His eyes weren't looking at the guests.

They were searching for someone.

Finally...

He stopped in front of the head table.

The table reserved only for the most powerful people in the room.

Without permission...

He reached into the inside pocket of his ragged hoodie.

Security instantly grabbed their weapons.

The guests gasped.

Was he pulling out a gun?

Instead...

He slowly removed a perfectly sealed black envelope.

Embossed in gold...

Was the same mysterious family crest decorating every invitation to the gala.

The room froze.

How could a homeless stranger possibly possess an invitation that only the world's elite had ever received?

No one noticed...

The billionaire sitting at the center of the room had suddenly turned deathly pale.
