Chapter 16 - The Eviction Notice

Claudia’s face contorted with pure venom. She reached into her faux-mink pocket, pulling out a crumpled legal document and tossing it onto the coffee table in front of me.

"You think you’ve won everything, don't you?" she hissed, her voice trembling with malice. "You think because you own this glass tower, you can crush us forever. But you forgot one thing. The ancestral Prescott estate in the Hamptons. That house was in our family long before you crawled out of whatever working-class slum you came from. We still have rights!"

I looked down at the paper, then back up at her, letting out a soft, low chuckle that seemed to unnerve her more than outright anger.

"Ah, the Hamptons estate," I murmured, walking over to the marble wet bar to pour myself another glass of water. "The sprawling colonial with the ocean view, the imported French wallpaper, and the private tennis courts."

"Yes!" Claudia snapped, emboldened by my calm demeanor. "It’s protected under family trust protocols. You can't touch it!"

"You might want to check page four of that document you just threw at me, Claudia," I replied smoothly, taking a slow sip.

Claudia frowned, her brow furrowing in confusion. She reached down, snatched the paper back, and flipped frantically through the pages until her eyes landed on a highlighted clause at the bottom. Her breath hitched. The color vanished from her cheeks, leaving her looking like a shriveled parchment doll.

"T-tax liens..." she whispered, her voice cracking. "Property seizure... Veritas Holdings?"

"Three years ago, when Weston's startup was bleeding dry and your precious lifestyle was about to collapse into bankruptcy, your son didn't go to a bank," I explained, turning to face her with icy clarity. "He came to me. To keep the mansion running, I quietly bought up the underlying mortgage and all municipal tax arrears on that estate. Your home has belonged to Veritas Capital for over thirty days."

Claudia staggered backward, her manicured hand flying to her mouth as the full, crushing reality washed over her.

"You... you own the house?" she choked out.

"Every brick, every shingle, and every imported marble tile," I said, stepping closer until I towered over her. "And as the primary lien holder, my asset management team executed the final foreclosure notice this morning. Movers should be tossing your designer luggage onto the curb right about now."
