Chapter 17 - The Final Cleansing

For a long, agonizing moment, Claudia stood completely paralyzed. The grand matriarch of the Prescott family—the woman who had looked down her nose at me for eight years, who had sneered at my clothes, my background, and my existence—was suddenly face-to-face with the architect of her complete and total ruin.

"You're a monster," Claudia whispered, tears of pure humiliation finally spilling over her eyelids. "A cold, unfeeling monster."

"No, Claudia," I replied, my voice devoid of empathy, steady as a monolith. "I am just a businesswoman collecting her dividends. Now, get out of my office before I have security throw you out the window."

She didn't argue. She didn't scream. She turned around on shaking legs, stumbled toward the heavy oak doors, and fled into the elevator lobby, her fragile illusion of superiority shattered into a million tiny, irreparable pieces—much like the crystal bowl on my kitchen floor weeks ago.

When the elevator doors closed behind her, I walked back to the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The rain had cleared, parting to reveal a brilliant, golden sunset breaking over the harbor. The city stretched out before me in all directions—a vast, pulsing network of wealth, power, and limitless potential.

My encrypted phone buzzed once on the quartz table.

Task complete. All domestic and corporate accounts secured. Total equity valuation increased by 34%.

I smiled, locking the screen and setting it down. The past eight years of silence, obedience, and hidden labor were gone, washed away like dust in a storm.

There were no more dishes to wash. There were no more galas to be excluded from. There was only the empire I built, and the throne I claimed by right of mind and capital.
