Chapter 15 - The Unseen EnemyTwo weeks later, the transformation at Vance Luxury Enterprises was well underway. We had cancelled our contracts with the fraudulent overseas logistics firms, relocated our headquarters to a modest brick building near the canal, and brought on thirty independent local artisans whose businesses Marcus had nearly driven into bankruptcy.

I spent my mornings in board meetings restructuring debt and my Tuesday afternoons hauling heavy boxes of supplies alongside Lucy through the industrial slums of Chicago. My designer suits were gone, replaced by flannel shirts and steel-toe boots.

Yet, beneath the surface of our quiet rebuilding, a shadow was lingering.

It was late Friday evening. I was sitting alone in my temporary office reviewing logistics logs when my phone rang. An unrecognized, restricted number flashed on the screen.

I swiped to answer. "Alexander Vance."

"You think you won, don't you, Alex?" a distorted, electronic voice hissed through the speaker.

I froze, standing up from my desk. "Who is this?"

"Someone who knows that the $14 million you recovered from the Cayman accounts wasn't the only stash Marcus and Maya set aside," the voice chuckled darkly—a cold, sickening sound that sent a shiver down my spine. "Your sister was just the public face of the operation. There’s a silent partner still inside your company. And by Monday morning, your entire enterprise will be worth less than the mud on your boots."

The line went dead with a sharp click.

Before I could process the threat, my office door swung open violently. Lucy stood in the doorway, her face pale, holding a crumpled printout of an internal security log.

"Alexander," she breathed, her voice shaking. "Someone just breached the primary vault in the main warehouse. And the security clearance code used to unlock it didn't belong to Marcus or Maya."

I stared at her, the blood draining from my face. The war wasn't over. We had only cut off the hydra's head while its body was still crawling in the dark.
