Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary of Secrets

"Take us to the safe house in Upstate," Alexander ordered, his voice hardening into steel. "The one my father doesn't know about."
"Sir, your father bought that property under a shell company last year," Frank said grimly. "There is nowhere he doesn't have eyes."
Alexander’s mind raced. His father, Richard Bennett, was a shadow dictator. He didn't just run a business; he ran a web of politicians, judges, and mercenaries. If Richard wanted Clara gone, it was because her existence threatened the very foundation of the Bennett dynasty.
"The old shipyard in Brooklyn," Alexander said. "The one we abandoned in '98. It's decommissioned, off the grid."
Frank nodded, turning the wheel sharply onto the Williamsburg Bridge.
As they crossed the river, Alexander looked at Clara. She was shivering. He pulled off his cashmere coat and gently wrapped it around her shoulders. She flinched at first, then melted into the warmth, burying her face in the fabric.
"Why did he do this?" Alexander muttered to himself. "Why would my own father hide my daughter and let my wife die in misery?"
"Because of the inheritance," Clara whispered.
Alexander looked at her, stunned. "What?"
"Mom told me before they took her," Clara said, looking down at the ribbon. "She found out something about the Bennett family fortune. It’s not built on real estate or shipping, Alexander. It’s built on blood. Your father... he didn't build Bennett Enterprises. He stole it. And Mom had the proof. That's why he locked her away."
Just then, a massive dump truck pulled out from an intersection directly ahead of them, blocking both lanes of the bridge.

"Brace yourselves!" Frank yelled.
Frank slammed on the brakes, but the road was icy. The SUV spun out of control, slamming violently into the side barrier of the bridge, dangling precariously over the freezing East River below.
