Chapter 8 - The Sunrise Over Fifth Avenue

Six months later.

The spring sun warmed the terrace of the penthouse overlooking Central Park.

Alexander sat at the table, a cup of coffee in his hand, watching his children. Thomas and Clara were running through the grass, laughing, their dog chasing after them. Clara’s hair was clean and shining, her laughter bright and free from the fear of the streets.

Catherine walked out onto the terrace, wrapping her arms around Alexander’s shoulders from behind. He leaned back into her touch, closing his eyes, savoring the warmth he had thought was lost forever.

"They look happy," Catherine murmured.

"They are happy," Alexander replied, turning to kiss her forehead. "We all are."

Richard Bennett’s trial had been the scandal of the century. The Bennett name had been dragged through the mud, but Alexander had done something his father never could: he had rebuilt the company on transparency, charity, and absolute integrity. The public didn't just respect Bennett Enterprises anymore; they loved it.

But as the family laughed in the sunshine, Alexander’s phone buzzed on the table.

It was an unknown number.

Alexander frowned, sliding the screen to answer. "Alexander Bennett."

A distorted, cold voice spoke through the receiver:

"You think you won, Alexander. You think Richard was the mastermind. But your father was just a foot soldier. The real owners of Bennett Enterprises are coming for what is theirs. Enjoy your family while you can."

The line went dead.

Alexander looked up at his laughing children, a sudden chill freezing the warm spring air.

The battle wasn't over. It was only just beginning.
