Chapter 7 - The True Heir

Upstairs in the library, Richard Bennett smiled as he watched the countdown on his tablet.
"A shame," Richard muttered to Frank, who was holding him at gunpoint. "A tragedy, really. The CEO of Bennett Enterprises, his children, and his mad wife, all lost in a tragic underground gas explosion. The board will be devastated. But the company... the company will survive under my leadership once more."
"You're a monster," Frank spat.
"I am a businessman," Richard corrected.
But before Richard could press the final confirmation button on his tablet, the double doors of the library burst open.
A group of federal agents, led by the District Attorney of New York, marched into the room.
"Richard Bennett," the DA announced. "You are under arrest for kidnapping, human trafficking, attempted murder, and corporate fraud."
Richard laughed. "You have no proof. I own the judges in this city."
"They don't own me," a voice called out from the doorway.
It was Clara.
She walked into the room, no longer looking like a dirty street child. She had washed her face, and her green-gold eyes shone with absolute brilliance. In her hand, she held a small, rusted USB drive.
"What is that?" Richard whispered, his confidence suddenly faltering.
"Mom hid this inside the pink ribbon," Clara said, her voice steady and powerful. "It contains the complete financial ledger of your offshore accounts, the transaction receipts for the mercenaries you hired, and the medical records proving you faked Mom's death. It's been broadcasting to the federal database for the last ten minutes."
Richard’s face drained of color. He looked at the tablet. The countdown had stopped.

Alexander stepped into the room, holding Catherine’s hand. She was weak, but she was standing, her eyes locked on the man who had stolen seven years of her life.
"It's over, Father," Alexander said, his voice cold as ice. "You're fired."
