Chapter 8 - The Scars We WearLate autumn sunlight washed over the rooftop terrace of the Alcázar Biomedical headquarters in downtown Mexico City.

The evening breeze was crisp, carrying the vibrant, electric energy of a city alive with possibility.

Elisa stood at the edge of the glass railing, looking out over the sprawling skyline. The city lights were beginning to flicker on one by one, glittering like a million tiny stars against the darkening evening sky.

Her younger brother, Daniel—now a lead software architect at the company—walked up beside her, holding two cups of steaming coffee and handing one to her with a warm smile.

"Thinking about the past?" Daniel asked softly, leaning against the railing beside her.

Elisa took the warm ceramic cup in her hands, letting the steam rise against her face. She took a slow sip, feeling the steady, reassuring warmth spread through her chest.

"No," Elisa answered, turning to look at her brother with a peaceful smile. "I'm thinking about the future."

Daniel reached out, gently placing his hand over hers. "You know, nobody would blame you if you kept wearing coats every day. Even in summer."

Elisa looked down at her wrists for a brief second.

Beneath the fabric of her tailored silk blouse, the scars were still there. They didn't magically vanish because a judge slammed a gavel, or because a federal prison cell locked its doors, or because a multi-billion-dollar company now bore her family name.

The scars were a part of her history. They were the physical map of a battle she had fought, survived, and ultimately won.

She didn't wear them as a badge of shame anymore.

She wore them as armor.

"I don't hide them anymore, Daniel," Elisa said quietly, her voice steady and full of unshakeable strength. "Scars don't mean you're broken. They mean you survived something that was supposed to destroy you."

She looked back out over the city skyline—free, powerful, unbroken, and completely in control of her own destiny.

The coat was off for good.

And the world was finally ready to see how brightly she could shine.
